The Center for Advanced Research in Education (CIAE) at the University of Chile&apos s Institute for Advanced Studies in Education is an interdisciplinary research centre funded by ANID. Its purpose is to contribute to the production and dissemination of relevant, rigorous academic knowledge on education and the challenges currently facing the profession. The goal is to enhance education and ensure it is more equitable.
The CIAE of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Education of the University of Chile was born in 2008. In 2014, the Centre for Advanced Research in Education became the first center in the social sciences to be awarded a project in Scientific and Technological Centers of Excellence, granted by ANID. Since then, the CIAE has consolidated its lines of research, strengthening the interaction between them and achieving research results of national and international relevance. In this project, the CIAE of University of Chile is associated with the Universities of O&aposHiggins, Católica de Valparaíso and Concepción. The director of the CIAE is Professor Juan Pablo Valenzuela.
We carry out interdisciplinary research and development in the following areas:
This line of research focuses on the quality of early childhood education, with special emphasis on early childhood educators as a profession, pedagogical practices in the classroom and the assessment of early childhood development.
This line of research focuses on the study, mainly experimental, of the association between cognitive, neural and teaching, learning and evaluation processes, incorporating, among others, a focus on development and its predictors in specific areas such as mathematics and language
This line studies sustainable and large-scale school improvement processes, especially in schools that serve students growing-up in conditions of social exclusion and vulnerability. Also, in collaboration with other lines, it analyzes the impact of recent educational reforms in the achievement of their objectives, and the contribution of these reforms to the improvement of the quality and equity of the school system.
This line of research studies teachers in their professional dimension, professional development programs to foster teacher learning quality and their relevance for inclusive classrooms and schools. It also studies the implementation of recent reforms to strengthen the teaching profession (Teacher Professional Development Law).
This line of research focuses on the teaching and learning processes of the different disciplines in order to improve learning opportunities and results in mathematics, science, technology and language.
